Tantalum is superior for handling hydrochloric acid (HCl) in high concentrations and/or at elevated temperatures and tantalum finds extensive use in industry for the production and handling of hydrochloric acid. Historically tantalum metal has been fabricated into absorbers, coolers and heaters which have shown considerable advantages in terms of heat-flux capabilities and corrosion resistance and in some instances have survived over 40 years.
Today, Tantaline's product range includes corrosion resistant valves, thermowells, fittings, and fasteners for hydrochloric acid service. Tantaline Jobshop may further be used for customer specific designs for heat exchangers, heaters, coolers, reactors and pump parts for hydrochloric acid applications.

Tantaline offers a chemical performance equal to tantalum at prices similar to nickel alloys having an absolutely unique performance/cost ratio compared to other solutions in titanium, nickel alloys, zirconium and tantalum. The table below shows the relative corrosion resistance in hydrochloric acid at concentrations in the range 5 to 35% and temperatures up to 200C. As can be seen, Tantaline has superior performance over niobium, zirconium and nickel based alloys at a lower relative price.

Tantaline is the Cost-of-Ownership Leading Solution For:
• Hydrochloric acid conditions at all concentration up to 150C.
• Hydrochloric acid concentrations below 25% at temperatures up to approx 220C.
Limitations
At high temperatures (above 200C) and high concentration (above 25%) tantalum will be slightly corroded and Tantaine may have a limited lifetime.
