Improved Mechanical Stability Tantaline Tantalum compared to c.p.Tantalum
Tantaline's tantalum surface alloy is supported by a mechanically strong steel based core. Because of this steel core, Tantaline's tantalum products are mechanically more robust than solid commercially pure (c.p.) tantalum leading to longer product life and reduced costs.
A Tantaline tantalum surface alloy is superior to solid tantalum mechanically for several reasons:
1. Solid tantalum is very heavy, about 1.5x the density of lead.
2. Solid tantalum is relatively a soft metal and not as strong typical steel materials
3. Solid tantalum is susceptible to hydrogen embrittlementwhich often leads to the failure of tantalum products.
