Tantaline Launches Revolutionary Corrosion Resistant Technology

Tantalum surface alloy technology poised to change world of corrosion

Company executives present during NACE Corrosion 2009 Conference & Expo (Booth #333)

Waltham, MA - March 24, 2009 –Tantaline® today officially announced the availability of its corrosion resistant line of products in the United States during the NACE Corrosion 2009 Conference & Expo in Atlanta, GA. Based upon its innovative vapor technology, Tantaline’s products provide a more affordable and effective solution for businesses who work with hot acids or highly corrosive chemicals. Tantaline, the world’s leading producer of tantalum surface alloys for valves, fittings, instrumentation, and custom products in hot acid environments, was also recently recognized as one of five companies to watch by Mass High Tech.

Many process engineers are faced today with material challenges that threaten to not only compromise their project goals, performance, and budget, but also their safety. To help combat this issue experienced by engineers and manufacturers alike, Tantaline enters the market with its tantalum surface alloy technology. The technology produces the most corrosion resistant material commercially available today for businesses ranging from global manufacturers to laboratories.

Tantaline was formed with the mission of helping businesses, that work with hot acids or highly corrosive chemicals, be more competitive,” said Dean Gambale, CEO, Americas for Tantaline. “We achieve this through our tantalum surface alloy technology, enabling some of today’s most cutting-edge technologies to meet their project goals within their budget. With unmatched corrosion performance, fast lead times, competitive pricing, and a product warranty for our customers, we are well positioned for strong growth in the hot acid corrosion markets within the chemical processing, energy, pharmaceuticals, and mining industries.”

How Tantaline’s Technology Works

The concept of Tantaline’s technology is to provide the corrosion performance of pure tantalum (Ta), an element and also one of most corrosion resistant metals, at a fraction of the cost. Tantaline’s vapor technology was developed to utilize the superior corrosion resistant properties of tantalum and apply it to any OEM’s standard steel parts (valves, fittings, instrumentation).

Tantaline’s process involves heating and reacting pure tantalum metal to produce a gaseous atmosphere of tantalum. The tantalum vapor then creates an alloy bond on the part’s surface (and into the core substrate), becoming a true surface alloy. The completed part becomes an entirely new product that maintains the original OEM part’s size and shape but now has the same chemical properties and corrosion resistance as pure tantalum metal.

Benefits of Tantaline’s Technology and Products:

For Process Engineers:
·         Reduces costs on equipment (valves/fittings/instrumentation)
Process engineers that require specialty metals (nickel alloy, titanium, zirconium, or tantalum) or fluoropolymers now have an affordable option with superior corrosion performance.

·         Improves the safety of processes
Tantaline parts are extremely rugged and durable, with the ability to handle an extremely high degree of stress caused by mechanical load, vibrations, rough physical handling, or temperature variations during use.

·         Increases productivity and extends lifetime of equipment
Tantaline’s tantalum surface alloy technology allows the widest range of temperatures, pressures, and concentrations commercially available, minimizing maintenance, repairs, and unexpected shutdowns that often hamper a process or project.

For OEM Manufacturers/Suppliers:
·         Provides easy access to the specialty metal market
Manufacturers/suppliers of standard steel products can enter the specialty metal market with no capital investment needed.

·         Reduces costs and risks
Manufacturers, who already utilize specialty metals, can now offer their customers superior corrosion performance at a competitive cost while reducing costly specialty metal inventories.

·         Improves product offering and expands market size
Businesses can meet their customers’ varying corrosion needs (across industries) with the most corrosive resistant materials commercially available.
